Course Overview
The Diploma of Business and Technology (DipBus) course (CRICOS Course Code 108861B / TEQSA Course Code: CRS1401176) offered by the Australian School of Accounting (ASA) is designed to develop confident, competent and innovative Graduates with the analytical, conceptual and technical skills to contribute to business success, in a working environment.

The Diploma of Business and Technology is a one-year course comprised of four quarters. For any inquiries regarding course length and flexibility please contact [email protected]
All ASA unit and elective assessment weight is as follows:
- Online discussion forums over eight weeks – 10%
- Individual essay/report OR mid-quadmester test – 15%
- Group report – 20% and presentation – 5%
- Final Exams – 50%
Students must score 40% or more in the final exam to pass.
Forms of assessment will include both formative and summative assessment, together with critical reflection on the outcomes of assessment tasks.
Course Description, Delivery and Timetable
The Diploma of Business and Technology is a six (6) core unit course and two (2) electives to meet the requirements of the Australian Qualifications Framework (Level 5) and Higher Education Standards Framework. Candidates can choose to study part-time or full time.
This course provides students with a strong grounding in the knowledge, skills and application required for an introductory level to overall business studies requirements, whilst at the same time allowing students flexibility at the electives level.
Graduates can use this study as an entry into an Australian School of Accounting (ASA) Bachelor’s Degree or exit with an award.
The Diploma of Business and Technology provides Graduates with an introduction to a range of disciplines. Understanding core subjects such as organisational behaviour, introduction to programming and information systems, marketing, business law and business communication will provide Graduates with the opportunity to develop their communication and interpretation skills for further study or application in the workplace.
ASA operates on a quadmester basis (four intakes per year). We offer two study options that enable greater flexibility in tailoring your study requirements to meet your lifestyle needs.

The primary mode of delivery is face-to-face and at the same time online for each unit, in the following manner:
- Lecture: 1 hour per week per unit
- Tutorial: 2 x 1.5 = 3 hours per week per unit
- Online Discussion Forum questions and answers: 1 hour per week per unit
In the case of less than ten (10) students the following will apply:
- Lecture: 1 hour per week per unit
- Tutorial: 1 x 1.5 per week per unit

Entry Requirements
ASA welcomes all suitably qualified students, both domestic and overseas.

Satisfactory completion of a qualification at certificate IV level, or an equivalent international qualification.

To gain admission to ASA’s Diploma of Business and Technology, students need to meet ONE of the following criteria:
- Successful completion of an Australian senior secondary qualification with a satisfactory Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) score of 55 (or equivalent as determined by the Academic Board); or
- Successful completion of an equivalent secondary qualification interstate and attainment of the required entrance standard; or
- Satisfactory completion of an accredited Tertiary Preparation Program (TPP) or a Foundation Year Program offered by a recognised higher education provider in Australia; or
- Successful completion of an equivalent secondary qualification overseas, and attainment of the required entrance standard; or
- Satisfactory completion of a qualification at AQF Level 6 or above, or an equivalent international qualification.

NOTE: International applicants are only eligible to enrol as full-time students and must be 18 years of age or over at the time that they commence the course for which they have applied.
(For non-school leavers including mature-age applicants and/or those who do not hold their HSC or equivalent)
Domestic applicants who are 21 years of age or over who have not completed Year 12 or its equivalent may gain entry to a course by addressing one of the following entry requirements:
- successful completion of a Special Tertiary Admissions Test administered by a tertiary admissions centre; or
- submission of a portfolio of prior and current academic and professional work.
NOTE: Mature age entry applicants must also meet the English language entry requirements.
Any student with prior learning may submit appropriate evidence and apply for Recognition of Prior Learning. ASA may award credit towards achievement of a qualification or award for various forms of prior learning by comparing a student’s current level of skills and knowledge against unit learning outcomes. ASA may, at its discretion, recognise the validity of other forms of training or education, providing they are deemed equivalent to, or meet, the AQF standards. Diploma of Business and Technology Graduates will be advocates of lifelong learning as they further their careers through additional studies. This will be achieved through the development of core knowledge and skills gained whilst studying for a degree in the future and through further work experience.
