Living and Studying in Sydney just got a whole lot better
Living and Studying in Sydney just got a whole better for international students.
After a recent Jobs and Skills Summit at Parliament House in Canberra, international students were flagged as an essential sector to draw on for Australia’s chronic labour shortages.
A vital outcome of the event was the Federal Government’s commitment “to extend the relaxation of work restrictions for student and training visa holders until 30 June 2023” to help ease skills and labour shortages. (Jobs and Skills Summit Outcomes, treasury.gov.au)
Businesses of all shapes and sizes in Australia value international students as workers, and this move is simply a reflection of that. International students are fantastic workers, bringing a range of new ideas and adding to the diversity of workplace practices and culture.
Here at the ASA, we know how important it can be for some of our students to be able to find some secure paid work to support their studies. However, we also know it can be a bit of a culture shock at first, and getting over that shock requires a bit of an adjustment.
Besides learning our Aussie slang, international students have to set up housing contracts, phone services, and bank accounts while making friends, achieving academic success, and adjusting to their new environments.
Flexible thinking, balance, and an open mind are required. International students know how to learn from their environments and are quick to adjust to new surroundings.
Whilst going through this experience isn’t always easy, it makes them so sought after by employers. Because they know they’ll be quick to learn their new role and treat that job with respect.
With unemployment rates at record low levels, there’s never been a better time to apply for a job. Employers are bending over backwards to attract new staff to their busy work, knowing international students are a great find.
If you’re an international student looking to live and study in Sydney, now is a great time to take the leap and apply.
